Osseo, MN • Data Recovery Six Miles Up the Road

Osseo Data Recovery: Hard Drives, SSDs, USB Drives, Memory Cards and Deleted Files

Osseo is one of the closest towns we serve. If a laptop just quit, a flash drive with a school project stopped reading, or the family photo drive stopped showing up, you're about six miles and 10-15 minutes from the bench where it'll get looked at.

We're a one-bench recovery shop in Champlin that works by appointment. Text us what happened, get a straight read on whether it sounds simple or serious, and then bring it by at a time we've set. Whoever takes your drive at the door is the one recovering it, and they'll update you themselves.

Until then, set the device aside and leave it alone, without restarting it again or running any repair tools on it.

Free evaluation. Flat $75-$140 pricing for most local recoveries. No recovery, no charge.

I reached out to Champlin Guys after I began having issues with two different 2TB external hard drives. The drives contained years of data ranging from college coursework and software projects to music archives and personal photos.

I made the mistake of putting all of my eggs in one basket, with no backups anywhere, and was unable to get the data off of the drives myself.
Big data recovery labs will charge you thousands to recover your data, but Champlin Guys charged a miniscule fraction of that. Cost aside, they were extremely responsive and explained every step of the process. Best of all, they achieved 99% recovery, even on one of the drives that was in really rough shape.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Champlin Guys, and will be turning to them first for any future data recovery needs.
Response from Champlin GuysThanks for the review Ethan, I’m really happy to hear you had a great experience. Thanks for trusting Champlin Guys Data Recovery with your external hard drives!

I don't normally write reviews. But I want you to hear this.
I am an author. I have made my living by writing books for almost 40 years. I have never been technologically sophisticated and I do not treat my data or storage systems with respect.

In the late 90's I undertook a project that resulted in me transcribing notes on an early generation Mac using a Macwrite program and storing those notes on various disks of various origins. When the book was done I threw those disks unprotected into a dusty drawer where they were exposed to heat and cold and probably spilled coffee. I thought I would never need them and don't even know why I saved them
A few years ago a publisher indicated interest in the book, which had since gone out of print. They also wanted some of the old raw material that had never been published. I had scribbled rough identification notes on some of the disks, but had not kept track of anything.
Desperate, I sent the pile of disks off to a highly reputable and not cheap data recovery service. After weeks of having the disks, they sent me back a jump drive with mostly unintelligible data and code. “The material is unrecoverable,” they told me. I accepted the defeat and gave up on the project.
Recently, publishers have again shown interest. Figuring it was worth one more shot, I found Tyler at Champlin Guys Data Recovery and brought him the disks. I expected I was just throwing money away, but decided it was worth the small investment to once and for all put my fantasies of finding that old manuscript to bed.
Within days, Tyler called me and said he had technologies that might be able to recover some of the material. Long story short, within a week he had done what no one else had been able to do: he had recovered all my material, identified it, organized it and collated it. Not only had he been able to get the data, he had given it back to me in a package that would have amazed a fortune 500 company with its professionalism. He had found lost manuscript fragments that I didn't even remember. And he had been able to give me a running document with narrative clarity and internal notations about areas of concern or unclarity. It was, on all levels, a brilliant job.
If you need professional data recovery of any sort, remember my experience: Tyler at Champlin Guys did in short order and for an incredibly reasonable fee what a highly respected national data recovery service had not been able to do. Put it this way: your data is not lost, it just hasn't been recovered. And Tyler at Champlin Guys is the one who can recover it. In terms of sheer talent and creative cyber skills, he is a miracle worker.

A small town with a long memory, right next door

Osseo incorporated in 1875, long before most of the suburbs around it, and it's still small: about 2,700 people between Maple Grove and Brooklyn Park, with Central Avenue as its main street and the 1915 water tower overhead.

Towns like that hold onto things: shoeboxes of photos scanned onto a CD years ago, a parent's old desktop that nobody wants to throw out, decades of small-business records on one office PC. When the drive holding those finally fails, the stakes are personal, and they're exactly the jobs we like doing.

Getting here is about as easy as it gets. Highway 169 runs along Osseo's eastern edge, so it's a straight run north to Champlin, about six miles and usually ten to fifteen minutes. You can drop off a drive and be back on Central Avenue in well under an hour.

Schoolwork stuck on a dead laptop or flash drive

Osseo is home to Osseo Senior High and Osseo Middle School, and the Osseo Area Schools district (ISD 279) stretches well beyond the city into Maple Grove, Brooklyn Park, and neighboring towns. If you're a student or parent and something is due this week, here's how to work out which situation you're in.

Check the cloud first

If the paper was saved to OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud, it may already be safe. Sign in from another computer or a phone and look before assuming it's gone. It takes two minutes and could save you the trip.

It's the family's own laptop

If an essay, a college application, or a semester of notes lived on a personal laptop that won't boot, that's squarely our kind of job. Stop restarting it and text us. When Windows or macOS won't load, the files are often still on the drive.

It's a USB stick

Flash drives carrying the only copy of a project fail all the time: snapped connectors, "please insert a disk" errors, or a drive that suddenly shows as empty. If the computer offers to format it, say no and bring the stick in exactly as it is.

Things worth knowing before you hand it over

Make a short list of what matters

"Photos from 2015 to now, the Taxes folder, and the band's recordings" is more useful than "everything." It helps us prioritize, especially on a drive that may only allow so many reads before it gets worse.

Know where the files lived

Tell us whether the files were on the desktop, in Documents, on a specific external drive, or under a particular user account. If the computer had more than one person's login, tell us which account the files were under.

Have passwords and keys handy

For a Windows laptop with BitLocker turned on, we'll need the recovery key, which is often saved in your Microsoft account. For a Mac, we'll need the login password. We'll tell you up front if anything is needed.

Leave it in the state it's in

Please stop restarting it, skip the cleanup apps, and don't let a store "reinstall the system." If it clicks or grinds, keep it unplugged. If files were deleted, don't save anything new to that drive.

Pick the kind of device

How it goes, start to finish

1

Text first

Text 651-955-8008 with what the device is, what it's doing now, and the files that matter most. We'll reply with a first guess at how hard it'll be.

2

Quick drive to Champlin

We set a drop-off time, and from Osseo it's a short trip up 169. Mailing it in is an option too.

3

Free look, flat price

We diagnose it at no cost and quote one flat price before any paid work. If it's a cleanroom case, you'll hear that before spending anything.

4

Files back in your hands

When it's done, your files come back to you on a USB stick, on a new drive, or through a secure download link.

What recovery costs in Osseo

Looking at the device is free. Once we know what's wrong, you get a single flat price. Most jobs are $75, and $140 covers drives that are failing and need slow, careful imaging. The price stays the same however long the job takes or however much data is on the drive, and if the files can't be recovered, you don't owe a recovery fee.

Board-level microsoldering and drives of 6TB or more are $250 flat. For multi-drive RAID or NAS units it's $250 plus $105 for each extra drive. Either one gets mentioned at the evaluation, before you've agreed to anything.

Free evaluation

$0 always

We assess the device and explain the likely recovery path before any paid work starts.

Basic recovery

$75 flat rate

Deleted files, formatted drives, simple corruption, transfers, and drives that are still readable.

Advanced recovery

$140 flat rate

Harder cases involving unstable reads, failing sectors, sector-by-sector imaging, or deeper troubleshooting.

Specialty recovery

$250 flat rate

Microsoldering and chip-level board repair, and drives 6TB and larger. Uncommon — most recoveries never need it.

RAID & NAS arrays

$250 + $105 per additional drive

Priced by drive count, because each member drive is imaged before the array is rebuilt. A four-bay unit runs $565, quoted exactly at the free evaluation.

Quick answers for Osseo

Is Champlin really that close?

It's about six miles north on Highway 169, usually 10 to 15 minutes away. Text first so there's a drop-off time waiting for you.

My laptop won't power on at all. Is the data stuck?

In most cases it isn't, because on most laptops the drive survives whatever killed the computer and we can read it directly. Some thin laptops and newer MacBooks have storage soldered to the board, and those depend on getting the board working, so tell us the model when you text.

My external drive beeps when I plug it in. What does that mean?

Usually the motor can't spin up, often because the heads are stuck to the platters. Each retry strains the motor, so leave it unplugged and bring it in.

I emptied the Recycle Bin. Can those files come back?

On a hard drive, often yes, if you stop using it now. An SSD is a tougher case: TRIM often wipes deleted blocks soon after you delete, so shut it down and text us before trying anything.

Do I have to drop it off in person?

You can ship it instead if that's easier, and you get the same free evaluation and flat pricing. Since it's so close, though, driving over is usually the quicker option.

What happens if you can't get anything off it?

Then you don't pay for a recovery. You'd only be billed if we actually get your files back.
